Category detail

Category detail makes it possible to specify and administer an individual category. Two different modes are available - read and edit mode.

Status

  • Read mode: Click the Deactivate category / Activate category button to make the category inactive / active.

  • Edit mode: Toggle the Active switch to Off / On to make the category inactive / active.

    Deactivating hides a category (together with its offers and subcategories) to the end user.

Name

  • Read mode: Category name cannot be edited.

  • Edit mode: Use the Category name field to specify or edit the name.

Position

  • Read mode: Category position is displayed in a path-like format under Parent category. It cannot be edited in the read mode.

  • Edit mode: Use the Parent category 1st level and Parent category 2nd level fields to position the category in the hierarchy.

    Proceed from the 1st level, 2nd level categories are dynamically offered on the basis of 1st level category selection.

    A new category is by default created as 1st level category.

  • Edit mode: Use the Position in ... field to specify the category's position within its parent category.

    Note: Categories can also be repositioned within the same level in the category tree.

Availability

  • Read mode: If category availability is restricted only to certain user roles and/or users, the roles and/or users to whom the category is available are displayed here.

  • Edit mode: Use this section to enable/disable and specify a restriction on category availability. See topic Limit category availability for more information.

Recommended

  • Read mode: Attributes pertaining to making the category recommended are displayed here.

  • Edit mode: Use this section to set up the category as recommended.

    • Category recommended - set to Yes to make the category recommended. A recommended category receives a tile in the Recommended categories homepage section.

    • Description - provide text (150 characters max) to be displayed in the recommended category tile.

    • Background color - select background for the recommended category tile.

Offers

  • Both modes & 3rd level category only: Use the Offers section to see offers assigned to the selected category. Reorder the offers by dragging their reorder icons at the right of the list. Open an offer for editing by clicking its name.

    To reorder offers in a category that contains more than 6 offers, it is necessary to first display all its offers by clicking the ... more offers link at the bottom of the list, then reorder the offers in the subsequently opened dialog window.

More actions

  • Read mode only: Click the ... symbol at the right top of the detail tab to access the following functions:

    • Open category in shop - opens a new browser tab displaying the category in the shop for end user. Use it to see the result of your customization from the end user perspective.

    • Translate category - opens in a new tab a USU Localization Manager editor in which translatable attributes of the category can be translated. See topic Localize a category for more information.

    • Delete - deletes the category. Note that a category can only be deleted if it does not contain any offers (either directly or in any of its subcategories). A category containing one or more empty subcategories can be deleted.

Editing

  • Read mode: Click the Edit category button to switch to the edit mode.

  • Edit mode: Click the Update category button to save changes made in the edit mode and switch to the read mode. Click the Cancel button to switch to the read mode without saving any possible changes.

Create subcategory

  • Both modes, 1st and 2nd level only (Not displayed in the example image):

    Use the action to directly create a subcategory of the currently viewed 1st or 2nd level category.
